
Apple’s App Store is expected to reach 25 billion downloads in the very near future, less than 8 months after announcing its 15-billionth download in July 2011.
The Cupertino-based tech powerhouse is also offering a prize of $10,000 worth of App Store vouchers to whoever becomes the 25,000,000,000th downloader of an application in order to celebrate the landmark.
The rise of the App Store has cerainly been a been a swift one since its launch in July 2008, with the store hitting 1 billion downloads in the first 9 months after launch and achieving 10 billion downloads by January 2011.
Additionally, the Mac App Store, which sells apps for Apple laptops and desktops, reached 100 million application downloads in December 2011.
It has been suggested that Apple’s recent sales figures have been the main catalyst in propelling the company towards this latest milestone, with the company selling 35.5 million units of the iPhone 4S in the final quarter of 2011.
Over 100 million iOS devices are currently in the public domain, meaning that app downloads only look to increase at an even faster rate in the future.
